THE MINIMALLY INVASIVE SURGERY CENTRE

The Jesús Usón Minimally Invasive Surgery Centre, (JUMISC), in Cáceres, is an institution dedicated to the research and knowledge transfer of minimally invasive surgical techniques.

Training

The JUMISC organises an extensive program of education and training in various disciplines for resident medical and surgical doctors, nurses, veterinarians, doctors and surgeons and other health professionals

Applied research

The research that takes place in the JUMISC is aimed at carrying out studies, comparing minimally invasive surgical procedures with traditional surgical techniques, with a special emphasis on applied research

Preclinical Research in Experimental Models
PDF Print E-mail

The R&D projects that JUMISC can execute and offer to third party companies depart from the identification phase of the necessity and opportunity up to the implementation of an applied research clinic, mainly translational, and technological development in conjunction with companies and other agents.

The applied research is carried out in the diverse areas of CCMIJU knowledge, the primary objective being to develop and adapt new technology.

In relation to this, one of the most requested services on offer is the creation of experimental models that simulate conditions in human medicine, as much for the development of protocols to assess and / or develop instruments, devices, etc. for conventional surgery, as for minimally invasive surgery.

The noteworthy and fully developped animal models available are:
prostatic hyperplasia, skin ulcers, pleural adhesions, constrictive pericarditis, polycystic ovary, ureteral stenosis and abdominal aortic aneurysm. Also under currently development are models for cardiac ischaemia for the subsequent application of gene therapy.

CCMIJU’s collaboration with hospitals and other agents in translational research provides a bridge between basic biomedical research and applied clinical research. Thus, the CCMIJU aims to shorten the interval between production of new knowledge and the transfer and application to actual medical practice.
