CREATION OF ANIMAL MODELS

- CREATION OF ANIMAL MODELS

1.- Experimental model of orthotopic autotransplantation of pig liver.

2.- Animal model of acute and chronic myocardial infarction.

3.- Animal model of stenosis-colonic obstruction.

4.- Experimental model of laparoscopic radical cystectomy.

5.- Animal Model of Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia.

6.- Animal models of different diseases that affect the reproductive system of women (Polycystic Ovary Syndrome and endometriosis).

One of the principle projects at the JUMISC is the development of animal models, either for the study of the pathophysiological mechanisms of certain diseases, such as cardiovascular disease, and metabolic diseases with a genetic basis, eg: diabetes, or for the study of neurodegenerative diseases, through medical imaging techniques such as ultrasound, the Digital Fluoroscopy-2D and 3D-CT and Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (NMR), by obtaining high-resolution diagnostic images. As well as the creation and validation of appropriate animal models to assess the applicability, effectiveness and benefits of the introduction of pluripotent cells in the treatment of acute and chronic myocardial ischaemia, in a porcine model.

Experiments are carried out in the treatment of intracranial aneurysms, employing venous tissue to create a model that allows cerebral aneurysm embolisation, involving coils modified to induce the thrombosis of the aneurysmatic bag.

In addition, suitable animal models are employed in the teaching/learning techniques of minimally invasive gynaecological surgery via approaches and the development of new devices and techniques for the treatment of gynaecological pathology in women - (polycystic ovary syndrome and endometriosis), pathologies that affect the digestive system of children, and benign prostatic hypertrophy.
