Applied research
Through this research, new frontiers will gradually open in therapeutic Urology, Obstetrics and Gynaecology, Gastroenterology, Vascular Surgery, Ophthalmology, Neurosurgery, Plastic Surgery, General Surgery and cardio-surgery. The progress made to date originates from the creation of multidisciplinary working groups where surgeons, researchers, engineers, computer specialists, illustrators, and so on, join forces and work on the development of minimally invasive surgery and applied technology in these techniques.
The JUMISC has accreditations as the Centre for Health Research and Training, Experimental Animal Centre, Centre for Innovation and Technology, Transfer Office of Research Results, and Reference Centre for teaching endoscopic techniques (declared by the Board of the European Society of Gastrointestinal Endoscopy-ESGE), with certification (AENOR) in ISO 9001:2000 in design applied research projects.
The JUMISC employs the use of state-of-the art robotics and automation, and hence will become the largest and most sophisticated research and training centre in minimally invasive surgery. It has ten pilot experimental operating rooms, four laboratories, two training rooms for laparoscopy and microsurgery and equipment for diagnosis and treatment of image generation. The laboratories have the most up-to-date equipment for the practice of endoluminal diagnosis and therapy, laparoscopy, endoscopy, microsurgery, Anaesthesiology, General Surgery and Cell Therapy.
