On July 7, 1986, the Chair of Animal Pathology contest at the University of Extremadura concluded, reflecting the brilliance of Dr. Usón, then Professor of Surgery at the University of Zaragoza. The fact that a Veterinary Department of Surgery was open to the public, without having physical infrastructure, already represented a considerable challenge. It began with two courses nationwide, one endoscopy and microsurgery and a workshop of anaesthesia in horses, for small groups and theoretical-practical-orientated specialist human surgery requiring training and special teaching techniques. Hence the idea gathered momentum in Extremadura, to promote education and research such as that proposed by Dr. Usón, and the first Centre for minimally invasive surgery was built in 1995, fitted with the required equipment, but the Centre was not sufficiently equipped for the growth that was to follow in a few years; hence, in 1998 the plans to build the second bigger and more spacious current Centre, where he Dr. Usón works.
