THE MINIMALLY INVASIVE SURGERY CENTRE

The Jesús Usón Minimally Invasive Surgery Centre, (JUMISC), in Cáceres, is an institution dedicated to the research and knowledge transfer of minimally invasive surgical techniques.

Training

The JUMISC organises an extensive program of education and training in various disciplines for resident medical and surgical doctors, nurses, veterinarians, doctors and surgeons and other health professionals

Applied research

The research that takes place in the JUMISC is aimed at carrying out studies, comparing minimally invasive surgical procedures with traditional surgical techniques, with a special emphasis on applied research

The Directorate General of Public Health and Consumer Affairs of the Ministry of Health and Consumer Affairs of the Board of Extremadura, granted administrative approval for the opening and operation of a Continuous Pharmacy Department at the Centre for minimally invasive surgery, according to resolution April 29, 1998. This service follows the guidelines set by existing legislation:

  • Decree 37/2004, April 5 on the authorisation of centres, facilities and health services within the autonomous region of Extremadura.
  • Law 14/1986, April 25, General Health, in its article 103.1.b, shall provide the holding, storage and dispensing of medicines, among other structures within the Primary Care National Health System.
  • Law 29/2006, 26 July guarantees the rational use of medicines and medical devices.
  • Law 6 / 2006, November 9 Pharmacy of Extremadura.

 

FUNCTIONS

 

The Pharmacy Department supports the Centre’s Units, ensuring the quality and proper use and dispensing of medicines during the development of educational activities and research, carried out via the following functions:

  • The acquisition, reception and storage of Medicines, consumables, sutures and other medical devices.
  • The dispensing of internal medicine, consumables, sutures and other medical devices for training and research within the JUMISC.
  • The control of Narcotic and Psychotropic used within the JUMISC.
  • The development and updating of the Drug Therapy Guide, combining the stored products that make up the pharmacy service of JUMISC and indicating that the uses for which they are required.
  • The management and control of medicines and other pharmaceutical products covered by a health alert from the Spanish Agency of medicine and medical devices.
  • The evaluation of incidents related to products and medicines that are used within the JUMISC for potential notification to drug-monitoring bodies, and health authorities.
