The General Surgery Unit

|
The General Surgery Unit works along the lines of investigation of "control of electro-intake through modulation of the vagus nerve" The purpose of this line of inquiry, which began in 2000 at the JUMISC in conjunction with the Dr. Pascual Foundation, is achieved through electrical stimulation of the vagus nerve (the nerve closely related to the stimulation of the satiety), reducing the intake in morbidly obese patients.
The electromodulation of the vagus nerve is a technique that involves the implantation of an electrostimulator via laparoscopy, which emits electrical impulses, causing a decrease in food consumption and consequently in weight.
Also the unit of General Surgery creates mock-ups of various pathologies: vascular, renal, gynaecological, digestive, etc., as well as participating in numerous research projects and training courses in surgery. The Unit relies on the development of its activities with the support of more than thirty renowned prestigious scientists at national and international levels, and twenty-five partners.
